Does your mouse keep reaching the edge of its pad while half the desk sits under your keyboard? An extended mat gives both devices one continuous surface. That can be useful whether you’re making a wide turn in a game, moving across an ultrawide display, or trying to keep a keyboard and mouse neatly together on a work desk.

The mistake is buying from the size label alone. “XL” and “XXL” aren’t standard measurements, and a wide mat can still be too shallow for your mouse movements. We compared five cloth mats by their actual footprint, edge construction and price. The useful difference isn’t a promise that one will make you more accurate; it’s whether your equipment fits without pushing the mouse into a corner.

TL;DR - Our top pick: Corsair MM300 Extended is the value starting point at $16.99 if 300mm of depth is enough. For wider forearm movement, the deeper Razer Gigantus V2 XXL costs only $1 more at today’s checked prices. Measure the usable area first.

Prices and Exact Sizes

New US Amazon prices checked October 27, 2026. These are ordinary displayed prices, excluding credit-card offers and membership-only promotions. Taxes and shipping can vary. All five selected offers were sold and shipped by Amazon.com; the SteelSeries listing showed a November 10-18 delivery window, so it isn’t the quick-arrival pick.

Corsair MM300 Extended$16.99930 x 300 x 3mmWide, shallow mat with stitched edges
Razer Gigantus V2 XXL$17.99940 x 410 x 4mmMore front-to-back mouse room for little extra cost
Logitech Desk Mat Studio Series, Mid Grey$19.99700 x 300 x 2mmSmaller office footprint and spill-resistant coating

Logitech G840 XL, Black$37.99900 x 400 x 3mmThe same broad footprint in a thinner mat

How Much Mouse Space Is Actually Left?

Here is a simple planning example, not a fit test: put a 440mm-wide keyboard on the mat and reserve 20mm between it and the mouse area. The remaining width is the mat width minus 460mm. Your keyboard may be wider or narrower, and a drink, phone or keypad takes more room away.

ProductSpace left in that exampleDepth availableConstruction difference
MM300 Extended470mm300mmStitched perimeter, cloth surface, rubber base
Gigantus V2 XXL480mm410mmTextured cloth over 4mm rubber foam
Studio Series240mm300mmSpill-resistant surface and anti-fraying stitches
QcK Heavy XXL440mm400mmMicro-woven cloth and 4mm non-slip rubber base
G840 XL440mm400mmCloth surface and 3mm rubber-backed construction

That is why the smaller Logitech can work well for a compact office setup yet be a poor fit for someone who moves the mouse with their whole arm. Changing to a 320mm keyboard in the same example recovers 120mm of mouse space without changing the mat. Our developer keyboard guide and one-handed gaming keypad comparison can help you decide which layout you actually need.

Also measure from the front edge of the desk to the monitor stand, not simply the desk’s advertised depth. On a 600mm-deep desk, a 410mm mat leaves 190mm behind it before accounting for the stand or cables. A mat that sits partly on a monitor foot is not giving you the flat working area you paid for.

1. Corsair MM300 Extended

Buy Corsair MM300 Extended on Amazon ->

Corsair MM300 Extended cloth mat in black and gray Image and specifications: Corsair MM300 Extended.

Key specs: Dimensions: 930 x 300 x 3mm; Surface: micro-weave cloth; Edges: anti-fray stitching; Base: natural rubber.

At $16.99, the MM300 gives you a wide keyboard-and-mouse surface without demanding much desk depth. The stitched perimeter is the feature to notice: it helps protect the cloth edge from peeling. “Anti-Fray” describes that construction, not a special anti-frizz coating or a guarantee that the mat cannot wear out.

It is the sensible starting point when your desk is shallow and 300mm of mouse depth is enough. The black-and-gray print is conspicuous, though, and the lower price doesn’t make that print a better fit for a restrained office setup. These are passive mats; no iCUE installation, account or USB connection is needed.

Skip it if your normal mouse movement needs more than 300mm front to back. At today’s prices, moving to the Razer adds 110mm of depth for $1. Buying the shallow mat and repeatedly lifting the mouse back to the middle would be a poor saving.

2. Razer Gigantus V2 XXL

Buy Razer Gigantus V2 XXL on Amazon ->

Razer Gigantus V2 XXL black cloth mouse mat with green foam edge Image and size chart: Razer Gigantus V2.

Key specs: Dimensions: 940 x 410 x 4mm; Surface: textured micro-weave cloth; Base: high-density rubber foam; Lighting: none.

The $17.99 Gigantus V2 XXL offers the most usable width and depth in this group. That makes it a good fit when you want room for a full-size keyboard and broad mouse movements rather than just a place to rest the mouse between clicks. Its green foam edge is also easy to distinguish from the stitched Corsair.

Razer markets the weave for speed and control, but that does not establish that it is the fastest pad or the best surface for your sensitivity and mouse feet. The stronger reason to buy this exact size is the extra 110mm of depth over the MM300. It has no Chroma lighting or software requirement, so Synapse isn’t part of the setup.

Skip it if a 410mm-deep mat would run into your monitor stand or hang over the desk. The smaller Gigantus variants have different dimensions and thicknesses; the linked offer is XXL, not the much larger 3XL.

3. Logitech Desk Mat Studio Series

Buy Logitech Desk Mat Studio Series in Mid Grey on Amazon ->

Logitech Studio Series Mid Grey desk mat with stitched border Image and specifications: Logitech Studio Series.

Key specs: Dimensions: 700 x 300 x 2mm; Surface: polyester fabric; Edges: anti-fraying stitches; Base: natural rubber; Finish: spill-resistant coating.

At $19.99, the Studio Series suits a compact work desk where you want a softer surface without covering most of the desktop. The gray fabric and stitched border are less visually busy than the Corsair print. Logitech documents a coating that lets small accidental spills be wiped away; that is a maintenance advantage, not permission to leave a wet mat against a wood finish.

The tradeoff is width. In the full-size-keyboard example above, only 240mm remains for the mouse. A compact keyboard makes better use of it. There is no Bluetooth pairing or configuration app for this passive mat, despite the electronics that may be sitting on top of it.

Skip it if you use low mouse sensitivity and regularly sweep across a broad area. Also note Logitech’s natural-rubber latex warning if that material is a concern for you. A different color does not fix the underlying material choice.

4. SteelSeries QcK Heavy XXL

Buy SteelSeries QcK Heavy XXL on Amazon ->

SteelSeries QcK Heavy XXL black cloth mat with white corner logo Image: SteelSeries QcK Heavy XXL. Manufacturer size listing.

Key specs: Dimensions: 900 x 400 x 4mm; Surface: QcK micro-woven cloth; Base: non-slip rubber; Lighting: none.

The $29.99 Heavy XXL combines a broad 900 x 400mm footprint with a 4mm base. It is worth considering when you want that deeper layout and prefer a thicker mat than the 3mm G840. That is a construction choice, not a measured claim that it will be more comfortable for every wrist or improve aim.

Pay attention to the full name. SteelSeries also sells a regular QcK XXL at 2mm and a Heavy Large at 6mm; neither is this 4mm Heavy XXL. The old listing’s “XXL Thick Cloth” description is consistent with the thicker extended version, not the smaller mouse-only QcK+. No SteelSeries GG software is needed for a non-RGB cloth mat.

Skip it if you need a mat this week: the checked offer estimated November 10-18 delivery. At these prices the Razer gives slightly more area for less money, so the SteelSeries is a preference pick, not an automatic value winner.

5. Logitech G840 XL

Buy Logitech G840 XL in Black on Amazon ->

Logitech G840 XL black cloth mat with dark corner logo Image and specifications: Logitech G840.

Key specs: Dimensions: 900 x 400 x 3mm; Surface: cloth; Base: rubber; Color: black.

At $37.99, the G840 is the most expensive selected offer. It keeps the same width and depth as the Heavy XXL but reduces thickness by 1mm. That makes it worth a look if you want the broad footprint with a lower edge and understated black design.

Logitech describes its surface as tuned for Logitech G mice. That is a manufacturer design claim, not evidence that another brand’s mouse will track poorly or that this mat improves a particular sensor. There is no G HUB requirement for the mat itself, and spending more here doesn’t buy lighting, charging or configuration features.

Skip it if price is the main reason you’re comparing these mats. The MM300 is substantially cheaper for a shallow desk, while the Gigantus offers more area at a lower checked price. Choose the G840 because its specific thickness, dimensions and appearance fit your setup, not because an XL label sounds more capable.

Before You Buy a Bigger Mat

Move the keyboard, mouse, wrist rest and anything else you keep close to your hands into their normal positions. Measure the rectangle they need, then make your usual mouse movements within that space. You can mark the proposed mat boundary with a sheet of paper; you don’t need a new accessory to find out where the monitor foot gets in the way.

A small mouse-only pad may still be the right answer if the keyboard sits comfortably on the desk and you only need a tracking surface. A wipe-clean desk protector serves a different priority from a cloth gaming mat. None of these five adds wireless charging or RGB lighting, and none should be bought as a treatment for wrist pain.

If the equipment itself is forcing an awkward arrangement, fix that first. Our ergonomic mouse comparison covers different mouse shapes; a larger rectangle underneath an unsuitable mouse does not change its shape.

Who Should Buy What

  • Wide but shallow desk: MM300 Extended, with stitched edges and the lowest checked price.
  • More mouse movement in both directions: Gigantus V2 XXL, if its 410mm depth fits.
  • Compact office setup: Studio Series Mid Grey, especially beside a narrower keyboard.
  • Deep mat with a 4mm base: QcK Heavy XXL, if the later delivery is acceptable.
  • Deep mat with a 3mm base: G840 XL, when its lower profile is worth the premium to you.

FAQ

Is an extended desk mat better than a normal mouse pad?

It is useful when you want the keyboard and mouse on one surface or need more movement room. It is not inherently more accurate. If a smaller pad already fits your movements and you prefer the keyboard on the bare desk, you may not need an extended mat.

Are XL and XXL desk mats the same size across brands?

No. The G840 XL is 900 x 400mm, while Razer’s XXL is 940 x 410mm and the MM300 Extended is only 300mm deep. Use the dimensions of the exact selected variant, not the size word in the listing.

Does a thicker mat improve gaming performance?

Thickness changes the height and amount of material underneath your hand; it does not establish better tracking or faster aim. Surface texture, your mouse feet, sensitivity and personal preference also matter. The 3mm G840 and 4mm Heavy XXL offer the same footprint, so thickness can be considered separately from size.

Can I put these mats in the washing machine?

Don’t assume that. Follow the care instructions for the exact mat and avoid promising a universal washing method across different coatings, fabrics and bases. For a small spill, stop using the wet surface and follow the maker’s cleaning guidance. Let it dry fully before returning it to a moisture-sensitive desk.

Will a desk mat protect any desk finish?

It can provide a barrier under your equipment, but no universal finish guarantee follows from a rubber backing. Check your desk maker’s guidance, keep the underside clean and dry, and lift the mat periodically to check for trapped moisture or grit. A mat is not a reason to ignore a spill.

Bottom Line

Buy enough mat for the way you move the mouse, not simply the largest size label. The Corsair MM300 Extended is an inexpensive starting point for a shallow setup. The Razer Gigantus V2 XXL is the stronger size-for-price option when you have room for the extra depth. A quick measurement will tell you more about which to buy than another claim about professional-grade accuracy.
